The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Senior Research / Research Associate in the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in the Extension/Outreach Division.
This position is responsible for extension research activities and administration within one or more thematic research areas. The Senior Research / Research Associate is responsible for independently designing, developing and delivering research and related services that are closely aligned with the strategic mission and core values of YTI and the ILR School. The Senior Research / Research Associate will be responsible for contributing to writing of research reports and scholarly publications for submission to peer-reviewed journals. This position reports to the YTI Associate Director of Research.
Senior Research / Research Associate is a full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with up to an initial appointment through December 31, 2024. The position may be reappointed on the basis of recommendations by the respective Project Director, the YTI Associate Director of Research, the YTI Director and Associate Dean of Outreach as well as available funding and work. Position rank will be determined by qualifications and experience.
Project-Related Emphasis: This position will conduct program evaluation, research, and dissemination activities in support of several research projects funded to the Yang-Tan Institute on Employment and Disability (YTI). The position will be responsible the design and implementation of research studies, communicating summary research findings to team members, conducting literature reviews, writing of research and evaluation reports for funding agencies, and scholarly publications for submission to peer-reviewed journals, contributing to proposal grant writing, and assisting with annual project reporting across a number of YTI current projects.
• Ph.D. in rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation psychology, organizational psychology, education, program evaluation, applied social science research or related field.
• Minimum three years of experience and demonstrated competency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodology.
• Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, providing critical independent thinking while also considering diverse opinions and approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to qualitative data collection and analysis, statistical data analysis, instrument design, conducting observational field research, writing of research reports and manuscripts for publication.
• Proven ability to use and learn different software packages and web-based tools.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct extensive literature reviews in target areas.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative environments and to contribute to the innovation and outcome success of a team.
• Formal educational preparation and extensive (3-5 years) in the area of employment and disability policy and workplace disability inclusion
• Two or more years of experience in a research and program evaluation environment.
• Proven ability to design and manipulate databases, use computer-based statistical and analytical applications, and be able to design outcome and impact studies.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and do presentations to large audiences.
• Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the employment and disability policy and/or workplace disability inclusion
• One or more years demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and grant management.
• Extensive record of presentations to large audiences.
• One or more years’ experience translating research findings into user-friendly and accessible publications for stakeholder use.
• One or more years of experience designing distance learning and/or online tools for professional development and planning purposes.
