Job Description

President and CEO

Reporting to the Board of Directors

San Diego, CA

Executive Summary

Vista Hill Foundation (Vista Hill) is a trusted nonprofit organization with nearly 70 years of service to San Diego County, providing comprehensive mental and behavioral health, substance use disorder, and intellectual and developmental disability services to approximately 25,000 individuals and families each year. The organization operates with a $40 million budget, employs approximately 400 staff, and delivers services across multiple county locations, including six owned facilities. Vista Hill is preparing for its next chapter of leadership as its President and CEO transitions.

The next President and CEO will build upon Vista Hill’s strong legacy while continuing to strengthen organizational infrastructure, align programs across divisions, and ensure long-term sustainability in a complex and evolving public funding environment. Key priorities include workforce resilience and retention, internal communication and cohesion, and strengthening relationships with public funders, community partners, and private donors.

Reporting to a dedicated 12-member Board of Directors, the President and CEO serves as the organization’s chief executive, strategist, and ambassador. This leader oversees all programs, operations, staff, and volunteers; provides stewardship of the $40 million budget; leads a seasoned executive team; and serves as the primary spokesperson for Vista Hill’s mission, impact, and community presence.

Vista Hill seeks a proven, collaborative executive leader with significant experience managing large, multi-program human services organizations. The ideal candidate will bring strong operational and financial acumen, experience navigating California’s public funding landscape, success in resource development, and a demonstrated commitment to Vista Hill’s mission and the communities it serves.

The position offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package, including an annual salary range of $290,000 to $340,000, eligibility for a performance-based bonus, and a comprehensive benefits program.
