Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree
  • At least six years of (combined) professional experience in both of the following related to: Medicaid or other publicly funded long term services and support (LTSS) for community living (must have direct contact experience and experience with paid systems of support).
  • Development and delivery of competency-based training for adult learners.
  • Ability to direct and manage teams and ongoing projects/product delivery within timelines and resources available.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise strong professional and editorial judgment.
  • Occasional out of state travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of key issues in workforce and policy and practice issues related to direct support in LTSS for community living.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing, presentation, facilitation, and training development/delivery proficiency in communicating from the perspective of a minority model/equity view of disability (or related needs) for community living including understanding of the social determinants of health; the value and emergence of peer support, recovery and self-direction; and the intersection of disability with other minority status and equity issues in person and family-centered support and access.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify evidence-based and best practices resources.
  • Bilingual and/or bicultural.
  • Lived experience connected to the mission, vision, and values of ICI.
  • Experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Advanced degree.

About the Job

Position Overview:

The UMN Curriculum Content Lead (9745S2) at the Institute on Community Integration (ICI) is responsible for providing expert services and consultation in curriculum development in the area of community-based, person and family-centered, and inclusive long-term services and supports (LTSS) to people with disabilities and related needs including co-occurring physical, mental, or age related needs. DirectCourse a multi-curriculum online multimedia training product that focuses on direct support professional roles in services to people with support needs for community living (physical or cognitive disability, mental health or age-related, etc).UMN staff currently produce content for 4 out of 6 curriculum and special projects. The UMN curriculum include: College of Direct Support (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), College of Frontline Supervision. Management and Leadership (Supervision and organizational approaches in community-based LTSS to any group.) College of Recovery and Community Inclusion (Mental illnesses) and Person-Centered Counseling (for planners and counselors associated with aging and disability resources centers or similar work.) Each curriculum has a different audience, preferred terminology, and context.

Content leads must have deep understanding of this context including professional roles, workforce needs and challenges, and current issues and policies in direct support. They will have no direct supervisory responsibilities but must be able to guide a team of writers and managing editors in meeting annual projections of content development in line with established projections, quality standards, and instructional design. The incumbent must be able to write creatively for a variety of audience (including English Language Learners) and media types, including video, and have demonstrated knowledge of professional editorial practices and processes, with knowledge of APA style and ability to discern appropriate resources, in alignment with a competency-based adult-learner training approach. Ability to manage a substantial workload and tight timelines is needed.  Annual renewal of this position is contingent on meeting annually established deliverables in terms of new content development and/or substantial upgrades to existing content.

Job Responsibilities:

Curriculum Planning (15%):

  • Develop and present an annual projection of content development that takes into account customer priorities, age/applicability of current content, trending needs in the field, and available resources (FTE, etc.) and submit to DC leadership for approval.
  • Plan and implement core aspects of the curriculum area roadmap including developing or updating topic area roadmaps as needed based on content priorities.
  • Maintain a list of live content that is ready for annual review in curriculum area and complete or assign to appropriate persons.
  • Work in partnership with other curriculum content leads and Director of Curriculum
  • Development to ensure an appropriate balance of effort is maintained across curriculum, shifting personal effort as needed to support team in meeting projections.
  • Maintain and develop a cadre of Subject Matter Expert (SME) editorial experts that support curriculum development through structured content review with support from the Director of
  • Curriculum Development and Director of Business Processes.
  • Communicate with SMEs/Editors as assigned to content in the curriculum area.

Content Team Lead for Curriculum Area: (25%)

  • Leads team of authors and editors in meeting annually project content development goals, including training, reviewing, mentoring, and meeting as necessary to keep product moving forward.
  • Implement parts of instructional design and quality guidelines. Provides knowledge and detail and supports others in meeting them.
  • Tracks and monitors issues around FTE, productivity, and quality in curriculum area content and works with other curriculum leads, the Director of Curriculum Development and the Director of Business Processes to quickly attend to issues that are deterring timelines and productivity.
  • Develops or updates tools to support authors/reviewers/SMEs in conjunction with other content leads and Director of Curriculum Development.
  • Develops and manages a database of approved resources and websites for authors to work from for each curriculum.

Content Development (40%):

  • Designs and develops at least 8 lessons a year on UMN DC curriculum as determined by annual work plan.
  • Reviews content of other authors in the role of managing editor, providing additional training or mentoring as needed.
  • Reviews and approve the work of other managing editors on the curriculum, providing additional training or mentoring as needed.

Ongoing Development and Networking in Content Areas (10%)

  • Attends key conferences related to LTSS, specific sector needs, equity and diversity, and curriculum design for the purpose of staying current on developments in the field, best practices in curriculum design, and meeting and communicating with potential and current DirectCourse customers, as designated in annual work plan with supervisor.
  • Presents summary of content accomplishments, projections, and challenges related to content area quarterly for DC leadership, as requested to internal and external, and annually and annually at National Advisory Board
  • Organizes and facilitate components of Annual National Advisory Board Meeting and as requested by the Director of Curriculum Development and Director of Business Processes.
  • Participates and contribute to activities related to the Entrepreneurial and Development Programs area of ICI as requested.

Organizational Leadership and Participation (10%)

  • Stays abreast of current climate locally and nationally with various disability groups and funding or organization of LTSS
  • Understands and be able to describe how individual activities connect to the greater ICI work and mission.
  • Engages in training, workgroups, or other activities and requested or desired to enhance and develop skills
  • Attends CEHD, ICI, RTC/CL required meetings, events and workgroups as well as those requested by supervisor to attend.
  • Attends ICI kickoff and quarterly all staff, contribute to ICI newsletters, etc.
