Medical Director – Developmental Disabilities Supports Division

Salary Range:  $89,461 – $155,626

Department:  Department of Health

Location:  Negotiable – Albuquerque or Santa Fe

Why does this job exist?

This position is mission critical because it provides medical consultation and oversight for the Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD) and the Home and Community Based Services waivers operated by DDSD.

How does it get done?
This position supervises the DDSD Clinical Services Bureau, the Mortality Review Coordinator and the Special Needs Dental Clinic.  The position provides medical leadership to Department of Health staff and contractors, provides leadership in all health matters including health policy development, establishing, monitoring and continually updating protocols and working with the healthcare community and University of New Mexico School of Medicine to build capacity for providing care to persons with intellectual disabilities.  The position is responsible for addressing health related components of the Jackson vs. Los Lunas litigation.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have:  experience directing and coordinating activities of nurses, specialists, therapists and other medical staff; experience providing comprehensive healthcare for people with developmental disabilities; trained and provided consultation to physicians and other healthcare providers; experience in mortality review protocols and experience developing clinical protocols for the evaluation and management of chronic conditions.

Statutory requirements:

Medical degree from an accredited medical school and 6 years’ experience in the licensed practice of medicine are required.  Must be licensed in accordance with the Medical Practice Act, Sections 61-6-1 through 61-6-35 NMSA 1978, and 16.10.1 through 16.10.19 NMAC, as applicable.
