Under the supervision of the Offices of the Provost, and Global Inclusion, Diversity, & Strategic Innovation, the Director of Disability Services will coordinate, augment and strengthen the ongoing work related to disability services, access, culture and study across NYU, and will find new ways to innovate, advance, collaborate and develop new opportunities to expand accessibility, understanding and full participation for people with disabilities at NYU. This work will include, but is not limited to, providing support for faculty with disabilities and setting the strategic direction for fostering a workplace and organizational culture that provides for a more inclusive and welcoming environment for any persons with disabilities engaging with the University (including current and prospective faculty members, employees, students, alumni, or visitors). Under the direction of the SVP/CDO Global Inclusion and Associate Provost for Strategy, the Director will partner with NYU organizations to establish norms and develop and implement cross-functional policies and procedures across the University that promote full accessibility to NYU events, web-based services, buildings and facilities, and programs and services. The Director will represent where appropriate individuals, stakeholders, and organizations in the advancement of University goals on diversity and inclusion and the intersectionality of persons with disabilities. In partnership with the NYU Office of Equal Opportunity, the Moses Center for Students with Disabilities, the Center for Disability Studies, the Office of General Counsel, Facilities and Construction Management, HR, and other University organizations, to ensure various University business activities and engagement maintain institutional compliance with Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other federal, state, and local regulations, providing subject-matter expertise and consultative services to business leaders and managers as appropriate.
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
Related advanced degree.
7+ years of progressively responsible experience providing and delivering programming and services to constituencies with a wide range of disabilities. Must include experience developing and implementing action oriented innovative models and approaches to disability built in/on disability scholarship. Must include experience developing and implementing related policies and working with academic and business leadership in a large university setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have knowledge / expertise of higher education trends (federal and local) with regards to persons with disabilities.
Subject-matter expertise on assistive technologies.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, negotiation, influence, and consensus building skills. Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations at all levels. Ability to work across a diverse spectrum including the nuances of intersectionality (intersections of gender, sexual identity, SES, religion, age, race, ethnicity, equity, etc.) for persons with a disability/disabilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations that pertain to persons with disabilities (i.e., Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.). Subject-matter expertise on disability and diversity and inclusion with respect to persons with disabilities and related intersectionalities.
