Job Description

L’Arche USA ( is a national membership organization within L’Arche International, a federation of inter-religious and inter-denominational communities where people with and without intellectual disabilities share life. At the heart of L’Arche communities are relationships of mutual respect and friendship in which the value of each person is celebrated and difference is welcomed. 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Major Gift Officer for L’Arche USA will be fundraising in the US on behalf of all of L’Arche. This includes fundraising for USA, International, and local communities, with the primary focus on fundraising for L’Arche USA. This person’s main responsibility will be to identify and solicit new donors capable of giving $10,000+ annually as well as stewarding a current portfolio of individual donors. L’Arche USA’s goal is to grow our major giving portfolio from approximately 40 donors and prospects to 100+ in the next three years. Donors and prospects will be tracked accordingly in the database management system. This position will report to and work in close collaboration with the L’Arche USA Director of Development.


Steward L’Arche USA’’ current major donors

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 40 donors giving or with the potential of giving $10,000 annually.
  • Develop and utilize a systematic stewardship plan for maintaining, building and growing relationships with major donors.
  • Relationships will be built in collaboration with the Director of Development, National Leader, other staff, board members, and volunteers.
  • Make personal solicitations and enable others to make asks as appropriate.
  • Reach or exceed annual major giving fundraising goals.

Design and implement strategy for recruiting new major donors

  • Research, identify, cultivate 15-20 new major donor prospects capable of giving more than $10,000 annually.
  • Develop a systematic plan for growing new relationships with major donors. This includes enabling others to make asks as appropriate.
  • Find new major donors to join the board of the L’Arche USA Foundation

Organizational Responsibilities

  • As appropriate, support members of the Development Team when responsibilities intersect.
  • Serve as a resource person for local L’Arche communities building their own major gift programs.
  • Aid with opportunities to collaborate with other L’Arche USA team members as well as member communities to develop additional stewardship and engagement strategies.

Donor Tracking

  • Guarantee that all prospect and donor information is captured in the data management system in a timely manner, ensuring prompt donor acknowledgement and recognition.
  • Use the database for goal setting, financial tracking, monitoring of all donor movements


  • Embraces the Identity and Mission of L’Arche.
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree, with additional education preferred.
  • Has three to five years of successful experience in major gift fundraising with experience securing gifts of over $10,000.
  • Understands the needs and interests of major gift donors and L’Arche USA in order to develop relationships between them and the organization.
  • Can articulately convey the mission and goals of L’Arche USA verbally as well as in writing.
  • Persuasive and credible with donors.
  • Good collaborator and shows good relationship skills with donors and teammates.
  • Strong work ethic, trustworthy, reliable and has an optimistic and positive attitude.
  • Organized and shows excellent stewardship and follow-up with donors.
  • Basic computer knowledge with database management experience.


  • On a regular basis, report to and meet with – remotely or in person – the L’Arche USA Director of Development.
  • Make approximately 15-20 visits annually once COVID restrictions are lifted
  • Travel to week-long national meetings of L’Arche 1-2 times per year and other possible development team meetings.

This is a remote, work from home position that also works with remote teammates. Preference given to Central and Eastern Time Zones.

Compensation $75,000-$80,000 dependent on skills and experience
