L’Arche communities are places of belonging where people with intellectual disabilities, called Core Members, and those who share life with them, called Assistants, live together in intentional community. Assistants accompany core members in their activities of daily life: creating home and supporting core members in sharing their gifts within the house and the larger community.
As full members of the community, Assistants offer core members support in personal care, meal prep, family and work connections, and access to medical care. The community offers Assistants trainings on the works of Jean Vanier, access to other types of personal and professional development training, retreats, and an atmosphere of authentic and mutual relationships.
L’Arche is inter-faith, with roots in Christianity. We seek those who wish to develop their own faith and support others in their faith journey, even if it is different from their own.
Room and board is provided, along with an hourly wage. Time in community can range from a summer to multiple years. A complete Assistant role description can be found here.
