Executive Director of Disability Services

Classification: Exempt

Salary Grade/Level/Family/Range: 90k-130k

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Executive Director of Disability Services provides leadership, consultation, and support for Disability Services and partners with other programs as required for health care support. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day and long-term supervision, growth, and program quality enhancement, as established in the strategic objectives identified in the Inspiritus strategic plan.

Essential Functions

  • Develops strong alliances and supports within the service-providing agencies in the community. Acts as an advocate for the individuals receiving services, the caregivers, and the organization.
  • In partnership with COO and CDO, explores funding opportunities to sustain, expand and diversify programming and financial resources.
  • Embraces a data-driven organization and uses dashboards and the PQI (Performance and Quality Improvement) process to monitor and strengthen program delivery and compliance.
  • Ensures the provision of appropriate clinical guidance and problem-solving techniques to the staff, clients, and support companions. Collaborates with Children and Family Services for program support in behavior and physical health as needed.
  • Provides for program policy development and regular review and revision, strategic planning, and problem-solving.
  • Monitors overall staff performance through observation, training, communication, and evaluation.
  • Recommends, participates, and conduct progressive discipline of staff members through encouragement, coaching, counseling, and termination in a fair and non-discriminatory manner.
  • Ensures that all nursing, behavior, and disability services personnel follow established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Establishes a working partnership with the clinical providers of clients and develops resources for services.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
  • Stays current on Georgia DBHDD, DCH and ASO and policies, as well as other regulatory requirements which guide the care of Inspiritus individuals residing in host homes.
  • Participates in the Critical Incident Review Team.
  • Reviews behavior support plans and ensures the plans are effective.
  • Attends state and regional meetings for DBHDD and DCH communicates important information as needed to staff.
  • Attends SPADD meetings and presents information as needed.
  • Assists staff with managing disruptions and finding alternative placements as needed.
  • Reviews high-risk critical incidents and high-risk protocols.
  • Assists in clinical program design for existing and new programs and makes recommendations on compliance monitoring for clinical service delivery.
  • Monitors contractual and grant compliance changes.
  • Generates required or assigned reports.

Non-Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business and program needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises, leads, guides, and supports the Disability Services team. Interviews and selects staff with input from others. Orients, coaches, and counsels staff. Ensures training requirements and needs are met. Conducts in-service training. Delegates and oversees work assignments. Monitors performance and adherence to Inspiritus mission, policies, procedures, and service philosophy. Conducts performance reviews. Recommends or initiates personnel actions such as salary increases, promotions, disciplinary actions including performance improvement plans and terminations. Writes job descriptions. Attends management training, meetings and retreats.

Financial Responsibilities:

Responsible for the development of annual program budgets and for regular monitoring and management of program funds. Approves staff timesheets and mileage; approves staff vacation and sick leave. Manages funds and other assets, i.e., supplies and equipment in a manner that is considered productive, in the best interest of Inspiritus, and conforms with approved budgets.

Work Environment
This is a remote position which requires primary residence within the state of Georgia or within a state in which Inspiritus provides Disability Services. Exceptions may be possible based on residence proximity to area of responsibility.

Physical Demands
Regularly required to talk and hear. Required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls: and reach with hands and arms. Required to operate a personal vehicle. The employee frequently lifts and or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend events may also be required.

Travels up to 25% of the time to meet with support companions and individuals, staff, and to attend meetings and trainings. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Master’s degree in Human Services, Nursing or other related field from an accredited university and at least two years of experience services for individuals with IDD.
  2. Experience dealing with social issues impacting consumers and the community.
  3. Five+ years of senior management experience, preferably with nonprofit.
  4. Knowledge of leadership and management principles related to nonprofits.
  5. Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovated approach to business/program planning.
  6. Experience with program development.
  7. Ability and desire to work within a team and independently.
  8. Ability to make tough decisions after reviewing available information.
  9. Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  10. Ability to take initiative and coordinate logistics.
  11. Ability to use critical thinking skills and make appropriate, complex decisions.
  12. Ability to forge mutually respectful partnerships with persons served and their families.
  13. Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.
  14. Willing and able to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet client/agency needs.
  15. Must be computer literate. Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  16. Must have a personal vehicle, valid Georgia Driver’s License (or other state where Disability Services are provided), safe driving record, and appropriate automobile insurance.
  17. Or possess a combination of education, experience, and competencies that enables the performance of all aspects of the position.

Preferred Education and Experience

1.    RN, LCSW, LPC, LMFT licensure, associate license, or license eligible

2.    Strong clinical assessment experience

3.    Successful experience with a Board of Directors or Advisory Board

4.    Successful fundraising and PR experience
