The Academic Dean at Franklin Academy requires a combination of administrative, managerial, supervisory, and direct service skills. This professional works well with others and can set aside ego to focus on the ideas and judge them on their merits. This candidate’s work ethic is strong, and he or she is willing to ask for and responds well to feedback.
The Academic Dean also functions as a member of the Program Team responsible for program development and implementation. Part of these responsibilities includes understanding the milieu, the role of academics within the larger system, and the Franklin Skills Paradigm. Therefore, our next Academic Dean will have a Master’s Degree in Special Education and work experience in special education and milieu placements (e.g., camps, boarding school, emotional growth programs, or treatment center).
The Academic Dean has additional responsibilities that include ensuring faculty compliance with Franklin Academy’s educational practices, such as unit plans, progress reports, and accommodation plans. These responsibilities require the skills and knowledge of working with students on the Autism Spectrum and Nonverbal Learning Disabilities and include a willingness to educate the whole child (social, emotional, behavioral, and academic). A final component of this position’s responsibilities includes communication with parents, school districts, educational consultants, and special education lawyers, and outside professionals associated with or providing services to Franklin’s students.
Finally, the Academic Dean will be asked to engage in a variety of specific tasks including
Evening & weekend duties
Elective and Intersession programming
Learning specialist supervision
Student behavioral & academic intervention
The Academic Dean’s position will initially be subject to an annual contract (July 1 – June 30) with regular supervisory meetings.
