Job Description

Detroit Disability Power (DDP) seeks a Senior Manager to manage and oversee the continued development of our innovative and highly sought after Disability Access Consulting (DAC) program. The DAC Senior Manager will take the program to the next level, through policies and procedures evolution, management of staff and ensuring excellent delivery of accessibility consultations in the field.

Detroit Disability Power is a grassroots, community-led organization that focuses on building the civic engagement and political power of people with disabilities in Detroit and beyond. Our work includes Disability Access Consulting (DAC), which provides paid and pro-bono consultation to businesses, organizations, and supports City initiatives focused on disability inclusion and equity.  Consultation includes access audits and recommendations about the built environment, educational workshops about ableism and disability justice, web design evaluations and communication access recommendations, as well as educational toolkits for policymakers and others on accessible infrastructure, protocol, and practice. The DAC is a unique program led by disabled people using lived experience and learned skills to help build a world that is more accessible and inclusive of people with diverse disabilities.  Our goal is to support client institutions to become more equitable for those inside of their organization as well as those who engage with them from the outside. We aim for revenues from DAC to support the other exciting and transformative disability justice work of DDP.

With the demand of our DAC services increasing across Southeast Michigan, DDP has launched a search for a DAC Senior Manager to oversee and grow DAC programs. This position will work closely with and supervise our DAC Program Manager, and work with them to create processes and procedures, conduct work in the field, and contribute to refining the vision and mission of the program, identify measurable outcomes, and assist with branding, promotion, and overall strategy.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who has 3+ years experience in access, inclusion, and design work. The candidate should have 1+ years of management experience, and excel at project management, program development, strategic development, customer relations, and operations. A background in social work, architecture, urban planning, UX design, business management, or similar fields are preferred. This is a full-time, salaried position with a competitive benefits package.  This is a hybrid role that will involve both on-site, remote, and in-office work. Transportation is required for this role.  This position will report directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

The DAC Senior Manager will be charged with increasing our client base and fee-for-service revenue by building out program infrastructure, effectively managing staff & projects, and providing high quality client services.

The key responsibilities of the DAC Senior Manager will be to:

  • Oversee client relationship management, and work with clients in the field and/or remotely to provide DAC services, such as audits, training, material review & recommendation, etc.
  • Engage in strategic planning, further developing the program’s vision and identifying short and long-term strategic goals, as well as metrics of success, to take the program to the next level
  • Ensure that DAC and DDP’s overall strategic mission and program objectives are aligned
  • Lead the continued evolution of DAC processes and procedures, including client intake and management, contracts, project management, and post-project survey & evaluation
  • Explore and recommend software tools like CRMs for client management and systems organization
  • Work with DDP’s Communications Department on overall branding and promotional strategy for DAC, including the development of DAC marketing materials, such as an online portfolio and social media
  • Support the DAC Program Manager with client relationships & work in the field, including client intake and contract process, project management and completion, and evaluating client projects
  • Co-design and co-facilitate workshops, curriculum and/or materials on a myriad of accessibility topics for use by clients

Qualifications 

The ideal DAC Project Manager candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in project management, administration, or similar fields that require business process management skills and the ability to develop  processes, procedures, and policies, including client intake and contract process, project management and completion, and evaluating client projects
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a field related to conducting access, inclusion, and design work with a focus on accessibility for people with disabilities and/or older adults
  • 1+ year of management experience and a desire to support and supervise a  team
  • A thorough understanding of the use and application of Universal Design principles
  • Experience with ADA and FHA standards and regulations that apply to built and social environments
  • At least a basic understanding of accessible website design
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity
  • Ability to communicate with diverse community members & engage disabled residents
  • Ability to engage in strategic planning (including goal setting, plan development and implementation), operational design and efficiency, and identifying ongoing measures for improvement
  • Experience designing curriculum, educational tools, workshop presentations, guides, toolkits, or other related materials
  • Experience facilitating meetings, trainings, and/or group gatherings that are educational
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to drive one’s work, being resourceful, asking for help when needed; comfort being an independent learner with an interest in researching and keeping up with best practices
  • Superior organizational and time-management skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to work remotely, as well as access to reliable transportation that allows you to be at our Detroit office at least once a week and to visit client sites as needed

Bonus Qualifications

  • Project Management Professionals (PMP) certification
  • Aging in Place Certification (CAPS)
  • ADA Coordinator Certification (ACTCP)
  • Experience working in a consulting capacity and/or with clients
  • Certification or bachelor’s-level degree in fields such as architecture, design/evaluation of the built environment, universal design, urban planning, project management, social work, or other related field

Position Details

The DAC Senior Manager is a full-time (40 hours a week) salaried position.  This is a hybrid role that will involve on-site, remote, and in-office work. Transportation is required for this role. This position will directly report to the Deputy Director and/or Executive Director.

Compensation

DDP offers a competitive salary and benefits package that meets industry standards and Metro Detroit’s cost of living standards. The pay range is $65,000-$75,000 annually, with performance-based raises. Pay is based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  DDP has a non-negotiation policy when it comes to salary offers as we know that negotiations tend to benefit certain types of people more than others. Our benefits package includes earned paid time off (8 hours biweekly); holiday pay; medical, dental, vision; 403 (b) employer match; and parental leave.
