Job Description

Provides instructional support and guidance to (a) classroom staff that serve children utilizing the Structured Teaching model and (b) educational and community service staff around working with children and adults with developmental disabilities.


Position Accountabilities
-Provides instruction support and guidance to Birch classrooms that serve children utilizing a structured teaching model, including but not limited to: conducting consultation visits; writing detailed reports with recommendations; meeting with site administrators, etc.

-Provides instructional support and guidance to outside agencies and school districts interested in Structured Teaching model, including school and program outreach to ensure Training Institute expansion.

-Provides ongoing staff development related to children and adults on the autism spectrum through the development, coordination and teaching of workshops, training days, and conferences.

-Provide ongoing consultation, support and training for staff working with children and adults with challenging behaviors.

-Assist in the development of comprehensive Behavior Management programs for preschool and school age programs.

-Takes part in expanding the role of the Training Institute to include  instructional support and guidance to outside agencies and school districts around understanding and modifying behavior.

-Performs other duties as required.


Position Qualifications
Requirements: Minimum of Master’s Degree and certification in Special Education or Psychology and 3 to 5 years experience in special education environment and an established record of staff development and work with expertise in behavioral practices and autism.  Candidates with certification as a CPI, or CPR/First Aid will be strongly considered. Candidates must be willing to travel within and beyond the five boroughs.


Hours of Work:  Hours of work are subject to change based upon department needs.  Typical hours will be: Monday through Friday: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a one hour lunch break.
