Job Description

Coordinator provides general staff development to Birch’s community service staff and specific instructional support and guidance to community service staff implementing a structured teaching model in Birch residences and day habilitation programs.

 

Position Accountabilities:
-Provides training to Birch residential and day habilitation staff in instruction of individuals with developmental disabilities within their residence or day program.

-Provides training in implementation of a structured teaching model with individuals.

-Provides routine trainings as required by OPWDD to residential, day and community habilitation staff.

-Provides new employee orientation training, certification trainings in CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, etc.

-Coordinates with the Community Services leadership to review any progress, challenges or training needs for staff.

-Monitors and reports project goals/objective and progress toward each.

-Performs other duties as required.

 

Position Qualifications
Requirements: Master’s degree in education, special education, social work, psychology or related field with New York State certification/licensing – as appropriate, preferred; 3-5 years’ experience working with front line staff in OPWDD/Special Education programs and people with developmental disabilities.  Certification as an instructor or willingness to become a certified instructor for CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, CPI, etc. Those applicants with prior experience as staff trainer, OPWDD and/or TEACCH experience will be strongly considered. Candidates must be willing to travel within the five boroughs.

 

Hours of Work:  Hours of work are subject to change based upon department needs.  Typical hours will be Monday through Friday:  9:00 am to 5:00 pm with a one hour lunch break. Some early morning, evening and weekend work will be required.
