The HR Specialist - Direct Care Staff will hire and train Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) for both the School and Adult Residential Programs. This position will become the organization’s expert on staffing and training of DSP employees, building and executing a highly effective recruitment and training system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement annual plan for ongoing sourcing activities to increase applicant flow and interest for DSP positions.
• Leverage a variety of recruitment resources such as job fairs, job boards, social media, etc. and coordinate recruitment advertising.
• Establish relationship with local schools and other organizations to help feed applicant pool.
• Screen applicants. Work with hiring managers to facilitate at least 10 in-person interviews per week. After implementation of training program, staff each training series with a minimum of 15 new hires (number may vary based on needs).
• Successfully onboard qualified candidates through the new hire process; including checking references, completing background checks, making an offer, and completing pre-hire paperwork session. Successfully complete the pre-hire process to include reference checking, background checking, offer and completion of pre-hire session.
• Monitor the completion of pre-hire steps, including drug screen and fingerprinting process.
• Manage training program for DSP’s, to be delivered in-house. This includes curriculum development, materials development, obtaining all resources needed to facilitate sessions (whether online delivery methods or in person class sessions.)
• Utilize RCYCP program and NADSP certification program as resource materials for developing course content.
• Work with hiring departments to develop robust on-the-job training support materials and program, such as OJT training checklist.
• Establish and execute field follow up for DSP’s after initial training period, at 3 month, 6 month and 9 month marks.
• Track training requirements for each employee. This includes maintaining accurate online file as well as hard copy file. Maintain an “audit ready” system.

Position requirements:
• BS or BA required; preferably in Business Administration, Human Resources, Training, or related field.
• Minimum 1 year of experience working in the direct support professional field, preferably with youth or adults with developmental disabilities.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in recruitment and/or training at Coordinator or higher professional level; prior experience hiring and/or training DSP’s highly desired.
• Prior supervisory experience a plus.
• Must be technology savvy; strong proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
• Must have exceptional stand-up training delivery skills.
• Must demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize work activities, and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
• Must have ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend course of action to fix.
• Must have ability to gain trust and maintain confidentiality.
• Must obtain RCYCP certification within 3 months of start date, and NADSP certification within 6 months of start date.
• Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends in order to follow up with new hires on the job.
• Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
