Seabird Enterprises, located in Groton CT, is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization providing vocational and day care programs for individuals with developmental disabilities with a current annual budget of approximately $5 million. Seabird has approximately 75 employees and 250 program participants at four locations in eastern CT.
The HR Manager is a new position reporting to the Executive Director and will work closely with the management and supervisory staff to provide expertise and advice in employee relations, recruitment/selection and training/organizational development. The position is responsible for conducting internal investigations involving employee misconduct, discrimination and/or claims of harassment. The position also encompasses HR Generalist duties including the administration and processing of FMLA, Workers Compensation and Unemployment. Other areas of responsibility include employee records, occupational health & safety, and employee benefits administration. Currently, this is a “hands on” job with minimal support staff so the potential candidate needs to be willing and able to directly handle diverse HR duties.
Qualifications: A BA in Business Administration with an emphasis on Personnel Management and/or Employee Relations with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a Human Resources professional. Previous experience working in the public or non-profit sector is desirable.
Fundamental knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource management as well as labor and employment laws. Experience in conflict resolution. The ability to build positive working relationships with all levels of employees. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education/experience requirements.
