Direct Support Professional
Chesapeake Care Resources is a Chesapeake Care Resources, Inc. (CCR) is a not for profit 501(c)3 human service agency providing residential, day habilitation, respite, health, transportation, and social/recreational programs/services for adults with a developmental and/or intellectual disability. The service coverage area includes Cecil and Harford Counties in Maryland and New Castle County in Delaware. Chesapeake Care Resources believes the service delivery system is driven by individual choice and strives to provide services reflecting this philosophy.

Chesapeake Care Resources is currently seeking individuals to fill the role of Direct Support Professional. The right candidates will be responsible for providing compassionate care and assistance to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The candidate must be open-minded and flexible, able to adjust their approach based on an individual’s requirements and requests. A DSP must recognize what is important to a person, such as likes and dislikes, and what is important for a person, such as essential health care needs. The prospective DSPs must also possess ethical judgment and the ability to create long-term, mutually satisfying partnerships and must work to develop strong, constructive relationships with people with disabilities and their family members, honoring requests and supporting life dreams. Prior experience is preferred but not necessary; various shifts are available in either the Day Program or Residential Program. While CMT and CNA licenses are not necessary, candidates are compensated for having current licenses.

Responsibilities include:

• Participate in the Individualized Plan (IP) process: its development and implementation, providing services as recommended, assisting in providing activities to accomplish recommended goals and documentation of responses to goal outcomes.
• Assist in direct care of individuals including, but not limited to: toileting, feeding, positioning, dressing, and other Activities of Daily Living as needed.
• Encourage social interaction by providing appropriate social and leisure activities.
• Support family/advocate/family member relations.
• Encourage and support individuals to engage in self-advocacy.
• Assist individuals in developing and maintaining self help skills.
• Transport individuals as needed.
• Participate in on-going staff training as required by agency.
• Maintain appropriate certifications including but not limited to: FA, CPR, Medication Administration, Certified Nursing Assistant- as appropriate.
• Maintain records; making appropriate log and chart entries.


Minimum Requirements:
• High School Diploma/GED required
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to meet CCR’s driving record criteria.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Evidence of interest in, and capacity to work with Developmentally Disabled adults.
